Denis Durand is part of the Private Wealth group at Jarislowsky Fraser. He first joined the firm as Partner and Manager from 1981 until 1988. After spending five years at Investment Counsel Gentrust as President and Chief Investment Officer, where he launched an international fund and the first REA investment fund, Denis returned to Jarislowsky Fraser as Partner in 1993 and managed client portfolios and relationships.
Denis has worked in the Department of Government Affairs for Quebec as an economist responsible for energy and mines. He was also an analyst covering the Oil & Gas sector at the Caisse de Dépôt et Placements du Québec from 1975 to 1978. From 1978 to 1981, he served as investment manager for Fiducie, Prêt et Revenu.
Denis has been a director of Care Canada, of which he was Vice-Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee. He joined the Board of Directors of Via Rail from June 2008 to June 2017, and was President of the Investment and Retirement Committee, at the invitation of Minister of Transport Canada. Mr. Durand was also Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the Regiment de Maisonneuve from June 2009 to June 2012. He was also President of the Quebec Association of Economists (ASDEQ), from May 2014 to May 2016. Denis was previously Treasurer-founder of ASDEQ (Quebec Association of Economists) in 1975 and Chairman of Le Cercle Finance et placement du Québec.
